Make Dua for Marriage
Supplications from the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah to seek a righteous spouse, invite blessing into your future marriage, and place your trust in Allah's divine timing.
The Du'a of Istikhara (Seeking Allah's Guidance)
Prior to making any final decision regarding marriage, it is highly recommended to perform the Prayer of Guidance (Salat al-Istikhara) and recite this supplication, asking Allah to choose what is best for your dunya and akhirah.
Allahumma innee astakheeruka bi ‘ilmika wa astaqdiruka bi qadratika wa as’aluka min fadlika al-’adheem fa innaka taqdiru wa la aqdiru wa ta’lamu wa la a’lamu wa anta ‘allaam ul-ghuyoob. Allahumma in kunta ta’lamu anna haadha al-amra khayrun lee fee deenee wa ma’aashee wa ‘aaqibati amree faqdurhu lee wa yassirhu lee thumma baarik lee feehi wa in kunta ta’lamu anna haadha al-amara sharrun lee fee deenee wa ma’aashee wa ‘aaqibati amree fasrifhu ‘annee wasrifnee ‘anhu waqdur lee al-khayra haythu kaana thumma ardinee bih.
"O Allah, I seek Your guidance (in making a choice) by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power, and I do not. You know, and I know not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter [mention the thing/person to be decided] is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, my worldly affairs, and in the hereafter then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood, my worldly affairs, and in the hereafter then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me the good wherever it may be and make me content with it."
Dua for a Blessed Marriage
A beautiful Quranic supplication asking Allah for a marriage filled with tranquility, love, faith, and righteous descendants who will be the comfort of your eyes and leaders of the God-conscious.
Rabbana hablana min azwaajina wa dhuriyyatina qurrata A’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama.
"Our Lord! Bless us with pious spouses and offspring who will be the joy of our hearts, and make us models for the righteous."
Dua of Prophet Musa (AS)
A general supplication for seeking goodness from Allah. Prophet Musa (AS) made this supplication during a time of hardship and uncertainty. Shortly afterward, Allah blessed him with safety, provision, work, and marriage.
Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer.
"My Lord, I am truly in need of whatever good You send down to me."
Why This Dua?
Prophet Musa (AS) was alone in a strange land with no family, home, or livelihood. By expressing his complete dependency on Allah's goodness, his prayers were answered immediately with a home, family, employment, and a righteous spouse. It teaches us to place our complete vulnerability and need before Allah ﷻ.
Dua for Love & Affection
A beautiful supplication derived from the Hadith of Prophet Dawud (AS), asking Allah for His Love, the love of those who love Him, and the ultimate alignment of love in our worldly relationships.
Allahumma inni as'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuka, wal-'amalalladhi yuballighuni hubbaka. Allahumm-aj'al hubbaka ahabba ilayya min nafsi, wa ahli, wa minal-ma'il-baridi.
"O Allah! I ask You for Your Love, the love of those who love You, and deeds which will cause me to attain Your Love. O Allah! Make Your Love dearer to me than myself, my family, and cold water."
Recommended Practice
When making supplications for marriage, combining your prayers with sincere spiritual practices aligns your heart with divine decree and invites barakah:
- Sincerity & Conviction: Recite regularly with absolute certainty that Allah ﷻ hears your call and will answer in the way and timing that is best for you.
- Acceptance Windows: Seek moments when prayers are more readily accepted, particularly in Sujood (prostration), during the last third of the night (Tahajjud), and between the Adhan and Iqamah.
- Specific Intentions: Ask Allah specifically for a spouse who is righteous, God-conscious, kind, emotionally sound, and beneficial for your faith, character, dunya, and akhirah.
- Halal Actions: Accompany your dua with sincere, respectful effort and trust in Allah's timing (tawakkul), keeping all interactions within respectful Islamic boundaries.
A Beautiful Reminder
There is no authentic Hadith that prescribes a specific number of repetitions for marriage-related supplications. The Sunnah emphasizes sincerity, consistency, repentance, and reliance upon Allah, rather than fixed numerical formulas.
